THE LIST: DVDs, CDs and books hitting stores this week

DVDS

"Semi-Pro" (R): Yet again, Will Ferrell drapes his goofy man-child persona in 1970s polyester as the owner, coach and power forward of an American Basketball Association franchise on its last legs. The setups are promising, but the payoffs are as flat as an airless red-white-and-blue ball, even with Woody Harrelson, André "3000" Benjamin, "ER's" Maura Tierney, Jackie Earle Haley and Ferrell's "Blades of Glory" co-stars Will Arnett, Rob Corddry and Andy Richter on the team.

Also out today: "The Eye" (PG-13); "Meet the Spartans" (PG-13); "Control" (R); "Vince Vaughn's Wild West Comedy Show" (R); "Flawless" (PG-13); "Houdini" (Unrated); "Those Daring Young Men in Their Jaunty Jalopies" (G); "The Andromeda Strain" (Unrated); and "Hitler: The Last 10 Days" (PG).

CDS

Weezer, "Weezer": "You'd hate for the kids to think that you've lost their cool," Weezer frontman Rivers Cuomo sings on the band's latest single, "Pork and Beans," but the thing is, you can't lose what you never had.

Weezer has become an arena headliner by flaunting geekiness like expensive jewelry and still rocking hard enough to dislodge vertebrae.

The band's latest disc -- and third self-titled album overall -- revels in their trademarks, so expect lots of guitars crunchier than broken glass and bittersweet lyrics best delivered with a sigh.

Also in stores: Ashanti, "The Declaration"; Disturbed, "Indestructible"; Fleet Foxes, "Fleet Foxes"; Jewel, "Perfectly Clear"; Journey, "Revelation"; Ladytron, "Velocifero"; Aimee Mann, "@#%&! Smilers"; Bret Michaels, "Rock My World"; Opeth, "Watershed;" Radiohead, "The Best Of"; Gavin Rossdale, "Wanderlust"; and Various Artists, "NOW, Vol. 28."

BOOKS

"When You Are Engulfed in Flames" by David Sedaris: The popular author follows 2004's "Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim" with his sixth collection of essays, including one account of his three-month stay in Tokyo where he tries to quit smoking.
