The little-known benefit to cleaning your home

Have you been wanting to lose 15 or 20 pounds but don’t know where to begin? Well, start with your kitchen! No, don’t go there to eat — go there to clean.

According to author Peter Walsh, there’s a significant correlation between a messy house and a person’s level of stress, which can lead to weight gain.

“Once the stress increases, hormone levels increase,” Walsh told ABC News. “Now, the result of that is that you start to overeat.”

In his new book “Lose the Clutter, Lose the Weight: The Six-Week Total-Life Slim Down,” Walsh outlines a six-week plan that focuses on decluttering the house, eating right and burning calories.

“Plenty of people have told me that they’ve cleaned out their homes, come to feel better about themselves, and watched their clothing size shrink all at the one time,” writes Walsh in his book.
