Vegas Dozen honored at Saks Fifth Avenue event

Saks Fifth Avenue hosted the "Vegas Dozen 2009: The Men We Love and Why We Love Them" on April 22 at their Fashion Island store.

Saks general manager Mari Landers introduced Heather Murren, chief executive officer of the Nevada Cancer Institute, beneficiary of the event. Mistress of ceremonies Phyllis McGuire introduced the honored dozen men with a brief bio as they walked to the podium wearing their new suits and accessories compliments of Saks Fifth Avenue.

Honorees were Michael Carr, president of Greenspun Media Group; Pat Christenson, president of Las Vegas Events; Bill Hornbuckle, president and chief operating officer for Mandalay Bay; David Kirvin of Kirvin Doak Communications; Lon Kruger, UNLV basketball coach; George Maloof, president of the Palms; Gustav Mauler, chef and president of Gustav International; David Robins, chef with Wolfgang Puck Fine Dining Group; Michael Severino of Southern Wine & Spirits of Nevada; Jack Sheehan, author; Kerry Simon, owner and chef of Simon Restaurant; and Jason Strauss of Tao group.

Entertainment was provided by triplet sisters Alekandra, Izabela and Monika Okapiec of the Alizma Group, playing their violins. The cast of "The Lion King" offered a preview of their production.

Wild Truffle catered a buffet supper with libations by Southern Wine & Spirits for guests, including Joan and Jim Hammer, Jewel Brooks and Jack Libby, Deni and Steve Conrad, Susan Houston, Bill Marion, Angie Wallin, Patricia and Richard Wright, Arleen Mack, Vivica Marshall, Brad Friedmutter, Stephanie Youngblood, Dawn Russi and Nicholas Vogelzang.

EPICUREAN AFFAIR: The 19th annual Epicurean Affair took place on April 23 on the grounds of the Flamingo Las Vegas. More than 1,600 people had the opportunity to sample food, wine and cocktails from more than 100 of Las Vegas' top bars, Michelin, Mobil and James Beard Foundation award-winning restaurants and chefs.

The Nevada Hotel & Lodging Association, the Nevada Restaurant Association and the Flamingo sponsored the event.

Guests strolled throughout the Flamingo's tropical oasis as they helped themselves to specialties.
