Here are a few things in pop culture that caught our eye last week.

■ A Southern Nevada Water Authority biologist says bodies of water here are home to mollies, goldfish and other non-native aquarium fish abandoned by pet owners. Fun fact: Historically speaking, bodies of water here also have been home to broke gamblers, mob witnesses and the occasional union organizer.

■ Pope Francis receives rave reviews during his first week-and-a-half as leader of the Catholic Church. Talk about your bracket busters.

■ Fans of the long-canceled “Veronica Mars” TV series pledge more than $3.5 million on Kickstarter to fund a movie sequel. The Kickstarter campaign for “Vega$ 2013” begins ... now!
