Here are a few items in pop culture that caught our eye recently.
■ The warmest June on record in Las Vegas ends with a record-tying 117 on June 30. Las Vegas: Spanish for “Please make it stop!”
■ Native son Jimmy Kimmel ■ signs on to promote Las Vegas in a new series of ads. What happens in Las Vegas will be hilarious.
■ A Salt Lake City NBC affiliate owned by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will for the first time this fall air “Saturday Night Live.” It’ll also be ending its longtime association with the DuMont Network.
■ The Transportation Security Administration sees a 30 percent increase in the number of air travelers who try to take guns aboard planes. Also up: the number of passengers sitting next to you who’ve brought smelly sandwiches onto planes.
