What heat? Readers capture best of summer

What says summer better than babies with messy goo on their faces at the swimming pool?

Not much. That's why Verena Gizelbach's photo of her son Lukas, right, and niece Theresa sharing a snack at the pool was selected the winner of the Review-Journal's summer photo contest. Gizelbach will receive a $100 prize.

We received more than 40 photos from valley residents who sent us pictures they felt represented summer. There are photos of ice cream, dogs trying not to eat ice cream, kids swimming, dragonflies and other summer insects, among others.
