WIN YOUR SCHOOL A SHARE OF $20,000 ON FACEBOOK
Nevada State Bank will donate $20,000 to three public schools in the state that receive the most votes on the bank’s Facebook page.
The Nevada State Bank $20K Giveaway: You Vote, Schools Win campaign is open through Oct. 14. To vote, “like” the Nevada State Bank page and you will be directed to a voting page. Voting is open to anyone with a Facebook profile, and there is a limit of one vote per day.
First prize is $10,000, second is $6,000 and third is $4,000. The winning schools will be announced during the week of Oct. 24.
HELP PROMOTE LITERACY IN SCHOOLS THROUGH BUCKS FOR BOOKS CAMPAIGN
All Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf locations in the valley will accept donations through Sept. 18 as part of the Bucks For Books fundraising campaign to benefit the Public Education Foundation’s literacy initiative, Clark County READS.
In exchange for a donation, the customer or employee may write his name on a card that is displayed in the store. The proceeds will support libraries and classrooms throughout the school district.
All Southern Nevada Jamba Juice locations also are participating in the campaign. Jamba Juice will accept donations through Sunday from customers and employees.
The Public Education Foundation is a Las-Vegas-based, nonprofit group started in 1991 to improve schools. For more information, visit thepef.org.
BACK-TO-SCHOOL FAIR SET AT GALLERIA AT SUNSET MALL
The Clark County School District has scheduled a back-to-school fair from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Galleria at Sunset mall, 1300 W. Sunset Road.
Parents can receive information about food services, instruction, transportation, police services and zoning from district officials. The Southern Nevada Health District will be on site to administer immunizations for students. Fees range from $16 to $25 for most shots, though some may require additional fees. Parents will need to bring their child’s immunization records.
REGISTER STUDENTS FOR BUS TRANSPORTATION
Parents can register their kids for school bus transportation on the Clark County School District’s website, ccsd.net, or by calling 799-8111 from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Parents need their child’s student identification number and date of birth to register, and eligibility can be determined on the website by street address.
SPREAD THE WORD NEVADA HOSTING ANNUAL FUNDRAISING GALA
Spread the Word Nevada is scheduled to host its 10th Anniversary Storybook Gala at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 17 at The Venetian, 3355 Las Vegas Blvd. South.
The Storybook Gala, “One Enchanted Evening,” is the foundation’s largest annual fundraising event. The event will feature silent and live auctions, prize drawings, entertainment and dinner.
Spread the Word Nevada is a nonprofit group that donates books to disadvantaged children to help them create home libraries. Since 2001, nearly 200,000 local students have received more than 1.7 million books. Individual seats are $250, and various sponsorship levels are available.

Clark County School District alumni who are planning a high school reunion may post information on the Clark County School District’s website, ccsd.net/schools/reunions.

NORTH LAS VEGAS CHARTER SCHOOL RECEIVES $6,000 IN SUPPLIES
The 100 Academy of Excellence, 2341 Comstock Drive, received nearly $6,000 in school supplies from the North Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce and Tangerine Office Systems.
The Leadership North Las Vegas group designed the fundraiser, Teacher’s Closet, which it will replenish in the future. Henderson-based Tangerine Office Systems assisted the leadership class with a substantial donation.
HUGHES CENTER ACCEPTING SCHOOL SUPPLY DONATIONS
Donations of school supplies will be accepted through Wednesday at the Hughes Center concierge desk in the lobby of the Wells Fargo tower at 3800 Howard Hughes Parkway, near Flamingo and Paradise roads. The supplies will be donated to needy students at Rowe Elementary School, 4338 S. Bruce St.
Suggested supplies include notebook paper, writing tablets, backpacks, pencils, pens, rulers, glue, calculators, dictionaries, art supplies and more.
