Dignitaries were on hand to celebrate the completion of the “Historic Westside Education and Training Center,” a first of its kind in Las Vegas.
About 500 families have students who were enrolled in CCSD schools last year but did not re-enroll for classes this year, according to the school district.
The principal of Vassiliadis Elementary School said he contacted school district police and animal control to handle the reported sighting.
Ray Garcia, 42, said he took the picture to give other staff members at the Henderson school “a heads up” about the student’s behavior.
Ray Garcia, a 42-year-old physical education teacher at Hinman Elementary School, was booked into the Clark County Detention Center on gross misdemeanor charges.
The school district said the new contract provides educators with $214 million in compensation and benefits, a 10 percent increase from the previous contract.
Officials said nearly one in three high school students and about one in six middle school students in Clark County reported having tried e-cigarettes.
Superintendent Jhone Ebert announced the tentative negotiated agreement between the school district and the Clark County Education Association on Aug. 9.
Clark County students went back to school this week, and questions of immigration and child welfare lingered in the back of the community’s mind.
