CARSON CITY - Catalina Heresi, a senior at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas has been chosen as the 2012 recipient of the Kenny C. Guinn Memorial Millennium Scholarship.
The scholarship was set up from donations received by the state treasurer's office after the death of former Nevada Gov. Kenny Guinn in July 2010. Guinn established the state's Millennium Scholarship program, which provides qualifying Nevada high school students with money to attend college.
One memorial scholarship is awarded each year. It provides up to $4,500 to a college senior majoring in elementary or secondary education. Recipients must state a commitment to teach in Nevada after graduation and maintain at least a 3.5 grade-point average.
