2-year-old pulled from backyard pool; condition unknown

A 2-year-old boy was pulled from a backyard pool near Jones Boulevard and U.S. Highway 95 on Sunday morning, the Las Vegas Fire Department said.

A 13-year-old family member at the home, in the 100 block of Mallard Avenue, found the child about 9:30 a.m.

The teenager performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation on the toddler until medical personnel arrived. The boy was transported to University Medical Center.

It was unknown whether the toddler survived or what his condition was, said Tim Szymanski, a spokesman for the Fire Department.

The child's name was not released.

Family members told investigators it was unknown how long the child was in the pool.

According to the Fire Department, the boy's family recently purchased the above-ground pool. They took the ladder away, but a plastic box was near the pool that the boy might have climbed on. There was about 2 feet of water in the pool when the child fell in. The pool had several toys in it that the toddler might have been reaching for, the department said.
