Anonymous donor offers to pay funeral costs for three children killed in fire
An anonymous donor has offered to cover all funeral costs for three children who died in a mobile home fire Friday.
The offer was facilitated by the Jewish Federation of Las Vegas, of which the man is a member.
He wanted to reach out to the families of the three children, who were 1½, 2 and almost 3, without calling attention to himself, President Elliot Karp said.
Karp called it a "mitzvot" - a good deed - and not the first time the philanthropist has offered to pay for a funeral.
"He wanted to cover the expense of the funerals to allow the families to grieve and not have to worry about the costs of this horrible tragedy," Karp said.
He spoke with one family member earlier this week, who he said expressed deep gratitude for the offer.
Darlene Jones hasn't spoken with Karp but said she has heard of several offers from Las Vegans to pay for the funerals.
Her grandson David was one of the three children who died Friday in the fire at Van's Trailer Oasis.
"It warms our hearts to know that there are that many kind people out there," Jones said. "Especially with the area that we live in, you kind of tend to lose faith in people."
She and her daughter are still planning a service for David and the other two children. The Clark County coroner still hasn't identified the victims.
