Arson possible in vacant-house fire

One major blaze and seven minor fires that Las Vegas fire officials attributed to "Thanksgiving-type calls" were reported from midnight Wednesday to about 8 p.m. Thursday. But the first fire of the holiday was more serious.
Las Vegas Fire Department spokesman Tim Symanski said arson may be behind an early Thanksgiving morning fire that caused $20,000 in damage to a vacant house.
The blaze in the 4900 block of Glory Lane, near Decatur Boulevard and Lone Mountain Road in northwest Las Vegas, was reported just after midnight.
The fire destroyed one bedroom and partially damaged another, Symanski said in a statement.
Neighbors told fire investigators that the vacant house was sometimes frequented by teenagers.
Of the minor fires, four were contained to the oven, including one in which the cook forgot plastic utensils were in the oven when he turned on the heat. Three were stovetop fires.
"None were significant, no one was displaced," Symanski said of the minor fires, "most was clean-up and continue with making dinner."
