Car wash to benefit family in fatal DUI crash

A carwash fundraiser will be today for a Las Vegas family whose father died and mother was critically injured when their car was hit by a driver in California last month.

Douglas Calderon, 27, of Pasadena, Calif., was charged in San Bernardino County with two counts of felony DUI causing death in the accident.

Julio Rodriguez, 55, died two days after the collision on Interstate 15 near Barstow, Calif., on March 20. His wife, Alma Rodriguez, 44, is recovering from extensive injuries at a rehabilitation facility , according to family friend, Lisa Jauch. The fundraiser will take place 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 3465 S. Rainbow Blvd, near Spring Mountain Road, at a Burger King parking lot, Jauch said.

Julio Rodriguez did not have life insurance. The couple's five children, ages 15 to 26, are trying to raise money to pay medical and burial expenses. STOP DUI has donated $10,000 to the family and a Bank of America account has been opened for donations.
