Cats, rabbits need homes

If you’ve had a hankering for a pet cat or rabbit, you’re in luck — they’re on sale at the animal shelter until Tuesday.

A spike in kitten litters entering The Animal Foundation shelter, along with more lost pets than usual over Independence Day weekend, have put the shelter at capacity for cats and rabbits.

To make room for more animals, the shelter, at 655 N. Mojave Road, is starting a five-day “MEOWnsoon” adoption special on Thursday. Adoption fees for adult cats will be waived completely, and kitten fees will be cut in half. Rabbits will cost $5. The shelter is open daily from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

“We desperately need people to come and adopt so we can make room for the more than 110 new animals entering our care daily and can continue to save lives,” said Meghan Scheibe, spokeswoman for the foundation.
