Residents should be proud of visitors authority
We Las Vegans can be proud of our Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority ("Convention authority receives international excellence award," Las Vegas Review-Journal, Nov. 20).
Recently, the authority received the prestigious Gold Certification award from the International Association of Convention Centers. Our authority was honored for its excellence in performance. This excellence award was presented to only 21 centers worldwide.
Our authority received a near-perfect score in management practices, policies, procedures and customer service. Senior Vice-President Terry Jicinsky said, "The award is a true testament to our organization and the people behind it who make the convention center the world-class facility it is."
The award also included the authority's excellent financial integrity, employee and community relations and environmental responsibility. This award is proof Las Vegas is coming out of the recession and that our future is bright. We can look forward with confidence to our economy returning to our former heights and glory days.
As our downtown's rebirth continues, spearheaded by Zappos CEO Tony Hsieh and the Downtown Project, we'll soon be singing, "Happy days are here again."
