Food safety cards available in Henderson again

The Southern Nevada Health District is offering food handler safety training cards in Henderson again after shuttering its area health center late last month.

The district announced Wednesday in a news release that it’s now offering the cards, which are required for employees at food establishments in Clark County, at Henderson City Hall.

The cards were offered at the district’s Henderson Public Health Center, at 520 E. Lake Mead Parkway, along with immunizations and other services before the facility closed June 24.

Health district Director of Administration Andy Glass cited a lack of customers, expiring lease terms and a space disproportionate to the demand for services as some of the reasons behind the closure.

Food handler safety training card services will be available at the city hall, at 240 Water St., from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Applicants undergo online training before receiving the cards.

The district is working toward partnerships to resume offering immunizations in the Henderson area and is expected to make an announcement regarding its progress later this year.

Individuals who need health services can also visit the district’s other four locations.
