Former UNLV basketball coach hosting clinic

Children and teens who want to improve their basketball skills can participate in Howie Landa's Hoop Clinic next month at the Silver Springs Recreation Center in Henderson.
Howie Landa, a former WNBA assistant coach and former University of Nevada, Las Vegas Rebels head coach, provides participants with instruction on the mechanics of basketball, including ballhandling, defense, passing and shooting. The clinic is designed to focus on the fundamentals while instilling confidence, and includes interactive drills and lectures.
The clinic will take place from 9 a.m. to noon Dec. 26-28 at the center, 1951 Silver Springs Parkway. The three-part clinic is open to players ages 8-16 for $80 a person. The price includes a camp shirt.

The camp is hosted by the city of Henderson Parks and Recreation Department.
Before coaching at UNLV, Landa served as head coach at Mercer County College in Trenton, N.J., where his team twice won the National Junior College Athletic Association championship. He was named NJCAA Region XIX Coach of the Year 10 times and National Coach of the Year three times.
