Las Vegas holiday bus service changes announced

Local transit service on holidays this year will operate on either Saturday or Sunday schedules, the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada announced Thursday.

The alternate schedules are being put in place because of lower ridership and less traffic on holidays, the agency said.

The holidays and their schedules:

■ Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Monday, operating on Saturday schedule.

■ President's Day, Feb. 18, Saturday schedule.

■ Memorial Day, May 27, Sunday schedule.

■ Independence Day, July 4, Sunday schedule.

■ Labor Day, Sept. 2, Sunday schedule.

■ Veterans Day, Nov. 11, Saturday schedule.

■ Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 28, Sunday schedule

■ Family Day (nontraditional holiday following Thanksgiving), Nov. 29, Saturday schedule.

■ Christmas Eve (nontraditional holiday), Dec. 24, Saturday schedule.

■ Christmas Day, Dec. 25, Sunday schedule.

Also, the commission on Monday will have route detours in place from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. due to street closures for the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. parade downtown.

Affected routes will include Route 108/Paradise Road; 109/Maryland Parkway; 113/Metropolitan Area Express (MAX); 207/Alta Drive-Stewart Avenue; 208/Washington Boulevard; 215/Bonanza Road; and the Boulder Highway Express (BHX), Henderson and Downtown Express (HDX), Centennial Express (CX), Westcliff Airport Express (WAX), Downtown and Veterans Medical Center Express (DVSX) and MAX and Deuce on the Strip.

There are varying degrees of detours for each route.

The agency recommends bus riders refer to full detour details, which are available online at rtcsnv.com. Riders with questions also may call the RTC's customer service line at 228-7433.
