Las Vegas officer identified in Wednesday shooting

The Las Vegas police officer who shot at a fleeing suspect Wednesday has been identified.

Police said Officer Ricardo Rodriguez, 30, fired his weapon at a suspect and missed. Rodriguez is assigned to the gang crimes bureau, and has been employed with Las Vegas police since September 2005.

The gang unit was on routine patrol and stopped two people about 7 p.m. The suspects then fled near Edmond Street and Flamingo Road. One of the men showed "some sort of movement" while running away, and an officer fired a single shot at the suspect in the 5400 block of Retablo Avenue, Capt. Patrick Neville said.

One suspect was taken into custody, police said.

The shooting happened a few days after Las Vegas police officer Michael Carral fired his gun at a man and missed in a northwest valley apartment. When officers responded to a "violent domestic disturbance" Sunday, 37-year-old Marcus Bolden did not drop his weapon after repeated demands, police said. No one was injured as the officer's single round missed the suspect.
