Man critically hurt in house fire; two others not injured

A man was in critical condition Tuesday after a house fire caused by smoking in bed.

The fire started about 10:45 p.m. at a home at 5480 Rio Vista St., near Ann Road and Rainbow Boulevard in the northwest valley.

Las Vegas firefighters said one man was hospitalized from severe smoke inhalation. Two other adults were not injured.

A Nevada Highway Patrol trooper noticed flames and responded to the scene.

Two men were standing outside the home watching the fire when one man went back inside to find car keys, authorities said.

When the man did not return, the trooper attempted to crawl inside to locate the man, but could not find him. Firefighters later found the unconscious man in a back bedroom.

The damage was estimated at $75,000.
