Man found dead in burning apartment

A man was found dead inside a second-floor apartment after a fire tore through an apartment complex near the University of Nevada, Las Vegas Saturday morning, authorities said.

Clark County firefighters were called at about 8:45 a.m. with reports of smoke coming from a second-floor apartment at 1309 Del Mar St., near Maryland Parkway and Tropicana Avenue.

Investigators said the fire was between the first and second floor of the complex.

The cause of the fire and the man's death remained under investigation Saturday.

Authorities did not release the victim's name. An autopsy to determine his cause of death will be performed by the Clark County Coroner's Office.

This is the second fire related death in the county this year.
