Motorcycle driver killed after hitting SUV

A 38-year-old motorcyclist died Wednesday afternoon after he collided with the rear of a SUV, Las Vegas police said.

According to witness reports and evidence at the scene, the man, operating a 2004 Yamaha YZF 600, was heading east on Tropicana Avenue in the right lane nearing Philmar Avenue when he attempted to slow down.

Police said that in trying to reduce his speed, the man's bike tipped over and sent him flying into the back of a 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe.

He was transported to Sunrise Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The driver and three passengers of the SUV suffered no injuries.

This was the 11th traffic-related fatality in LVMPD's jurisdiction in 2013.
