Public hearing set for new recycling program in Henderson

The Henderson City Council on Tuesday will hold a public hearing on a proposed single-stream recycling program.

The city and Republic Services have engaged in a pilot program in select areas of Henderson with a mostly favorable response from residents, according to a study conducted by the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

The good news is residents could use a single bin to place their recyclables such as paper, glass, plastic and aluminum cans. Residents have been sorting recyclables into three separate bins.

Trash pickup would be reduced from twice weekly to once a week.

The objective is to prolong the life of the landfill and help Henderson become more sustainable.

The Henderson City Council meets at 7 p.m. Tuesday in council chambers of Henderson City Hall, 240 Water St.
