YMCA OFFERING DISCOUNT ON NEW MEMBERSHIPS

The YMCA of Southern Nevada encourages people of all ages to "live better, do it together" in 2013 with a savings initiative. Individuals or families can save up to $75 on a new membership when they join by Jan. 31.

No coupon is required for the offer, which is good at all YMCA of Southern Nevada locations: the Bill & Lillie Heinrich YMCA, 4141 Meadows Lane; the Durango Hills Community Center YMCA, 3521 N. Durango Drive; the Centennial Hills Community Center YMCA, 6601 N. Buffalo Drive; and the SkyView YMCA, 3050 E. Centennial Parkway in North Las Vegas.

Membership includes support from trained wellness coaches, free child care while parents use the facility, all-age classes, guest passes and use of participating Ys across the country.

Amenities include cardio and strength equipment, pools with lap lanes and lesson areas, gyms, child care rooms and a rock wall.

Locker rooms, vending areas and free Wi-Fi are available.

The YMCA is nonprofit, and no one is turned away because of an inability to pay. Financial assistance is available.

MS RELAY SEEKS RUNNING PARTNERS

The MS Run the US 2013 Relay, which is slated for April 16 through Sept. 17 and is to be divided into 22 segments, is seeking 14 running partners to take part in each leg of this coast-to-coast run. Each segment covers approximately 140 miles of running over the course of six days. All proceeds raised will support MS research. The relay is set to get underway in Los Angeles in mid-April and will wrap up in New York City five months later.

CHEFS FOR KIDS PLAN 5K RUN AND 1 MILE FUN WALK FOR JAN. 19

The Chefs for Kids 5K Run/1 Mile Fun Walk is scheduled for 9 a.m. Jan. 19 at W. Wayne Bunker Family Park, 7351 W. Alexander Road.

Each runner/walker will receive a long-sleeved T-shirt, a goodie bag and a free pancake breakfast. There also will be a raffle.

The Las Vegas Track Club will provide race bibs and computerized timing. Trophies will be awarded in each age category, which begin with 12-year-olds.

Participant fees are $25 for adults for the 5K and $20 for the fun walk, $20 for children 12 or younger and per runner for groups of 10 or more. Race-day fee is $35. Online registration is available at active.com or mail checks payable to LVTC to P.O. Box 30134, Las Vegas, NV 89173.

COED FLAG FOOTBALL REGISTRATION OPEN

Coed fall flag football registration for ages 6 to 14 is set to open Monday through March 1. League play is set for March 16 to May 11.

Registration is available at Cimarron Rose Community Center, 5591 N. Cimarron Road, 702-229-1607, and Veterans Memorial Leisure Services Center, 101 N. Pavilion Center Drive, 702-229-1100.

The cost is $75 per person and includes an NFL team jersey and shorts. A birth certificate is required to register. Volunteer coaches are needed. Cost includes a postseason tournament. No games will be scheduled for March 30.

EXTRA WEEKEND ADDED FOR LEE CANYON SNOWSHOE CAMP

Each year, the Clark County Parks and Recreation Department provides a guided snowshoe hike and camping trip at Lee Canyon. The weekend program offers hikes through the Bristlecone Loop, including a night hike in the Lee Canyon Meadow for stargazing and an interpretative hike with the U.S. Forest Service.

Participants spend the night in heated, rustic cabins equipped with bunk beds. A pancake breakfast is provided on Sunday morning, but participants are responsible for all other food and bedding.

This year, additional dates have been added due to the camp's growing popularity. Space is limited, and snowshoes are available for the first 20 people who sign up. Snowshoes may also be rented at local outdoor outfitters. The family-friendly event is $15 per person.

SHORT-TRACK SERIES, MOTORCYCLE AUCTION PLANNED AT THE SOUTH POINT

More than 150 motorcyclists from around the U.S. are set to compete during the Championship Indoor Concrete Short Track event Friday and Saturday at the South Point, 9777 Las Vegas Blvd. South.

The event will feature four classes of handlebar-to-handlebar races on a polished concrete track.

Gates are set to open at 6:30 p.m., with races scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m. Tickets $10 for those ages 6-16 and $20 for adults.

In conjunction with the event, fans will have the opportunity to bid during the 22nd annual Las Vegas Vintage Motorcycle Auction, set to kick off at 6 p.m. Thursday and continue starting at 9 a.m. Friday and Saturday. Hundreds of motorcycles are set to be auctioned off during the event.

VOLUNTEER SNOW HOSTS SOUGHT FOR MOUNT CHARLESTON

The U.S. Forest Service is looking for volunteers to be snow hosts on Mount Charleston, providing roadside information about snow play opportunities and engaging visitors at those sites.

Snow hosts will help visitors have fun while reducing the impacts on the forest environment. Experience volunteering in a similar setting is a plus. Volunteers should be at least 18 years old and be able to work outdoors in the cold.

Volunteer hours will be on the weekends and holidays, and the average shifts range between three and six hours.

A minimum commitment of two shifts per month is required, and volunteers are needed until the end of March.

Leisure Connection for those 22 or older with developmental disabilities is a social group planned each month. The North Las Vegas Recreation Division's Activity Schedule of classes, sports and recreation programs is now available.

The city's recreation division offers a variety of affordable activities for adults and children, including personal training at the gym, adult and child dance classes, gymnastics, ceramics and martial arts.

Each of the programs encourages healthy exercise and social activities.

NEW A.G.E. EVENTS FOR THOSE WITH DISABILITIES PLANNED

New A.G.E. for those 22 or older with developmental disabilities is set from 1:30 to 5:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays at the Centennial Hills Active Adult Center, 6601 N. Buffalo Drive. The program offers a variety of activities and special events that promote individuality, self-esteem and independence. The cost is $21 for one to three days, $28 for four days and $35 for five days each week.

NORTH LAS VEGAS RECREATION DIVISION ANNOUNCES HEALTH CAMPAIGN

The North Las Vegas Recreation Division has announced its Get Moving! Get Healthy! campaign, which aims to encourage healthy exercise and social activities through the division's programs and sports.

Each month, the Recreation Division will launch an online video highlighting a recreational, social or sports program offered at the Silver Mesa Recreation Center, 4025 Allen Lane, or the Neighborhood Recreation Center, 1638 N. Bruce St.

Featured first is the Recreation Division's martial arts class offerings. The campaign also will highlight activities from its Social Seniors and after-school programs.

Eastern Ave. Participants can enjoy a new recreation experience every week, community outings, sports, games, arts and crafts, swimming and movies. The cost is $27 for one to three days, $36 for four days and $45 for five days, per person.
