ROAD ALERT: Route 158 on mountain closed until Christmas
State Route 158, also known as Deer Creek Road, is closed until Christmas Day to ensure public safety until the completion of roadwork in the Desert Overlook area, the Nevada Department of Transportation announced.
The highway will be open on Christmas Day.
The closure is by the U.S. Forest Service, which was approved by the Transportation Department.
Route 158 connects Kyle Canyon Road to Lee Canyon Road.
The roadwork includes paving on the shoulder, grading in the dividing line and other construction adjacent to the route.
Visitors wishing to access Mount Charleston Lodge can do so via Kyle Canyon Road via state Route 157, while those wanting to access ski facilities on the mountain can use Lee Canyon Road, state Route 156.
During the closure, Mount Charleston residents will be able to get up to and off the mountain.
