Secret Santa gives United Way $1 million to help needy families

United Way of Southern Nevada brightened the holidays of more than 2,000 needy families this week with the help of a generous Secret Santa who donated $1 million to the charity.

The families, who were vetted by United Way, each received $500 Visa gift cards Thursday.

"We are thankful for our Secret Santa, who has already inspired others to step up and help those in need," said Cass Palmer, president and CEO of the local United Way . The anonymous donor specifically asked that the money be used to brighten the winter season for families in need.
