Trash chute fire forces evacuations at Planet Hollywood

A trash chute fire Thursday morning at Planet Hollywood sent one woman to the hospital and caused $100,000 in damage, Clark County officials said.

The county fire department responded to the blaze at 10:12 a.m. on the fifth floor of the north tower. The fire ignited from sparks off of a grinding circular saw cutting metal around the chute.

Burned material was found near the chute from the second to ninth floors, and smoke reached many floors, officials said. The building was evacuated from the fifth to seventh floors.

The fire was extinguished shortly before 11:30 a.m.

One woman, an employee in her 60s, was taken to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center. The extent of her injuries was not disclosed.
