Two Clark County School District buses involved in traffic accidents

A bus taking 44 students home from school was hit by a car Tuesday afternoon on Tropicana Avenue near Interstate 15, but no students were seriously injured, a Clark County School District spokesman said.

A car struck the side of the bus, said spokesman Michael Rodriguez. The bus driver and three students were taken to a hospital as a precaution. The bus had been transporting students from Las Vegas Academy, Martin Middle School and Desert Pines High School when the crash occurred.

Another district bus was involved in a collision Tuesday afternoon at Simmons Street and Carey Avenue. North Las Vegas police said the bus was traveling east on Carey about 3:25 p.m. when it stopped for the red light at Simmons.

A GMC Suburban traveling east on Carey struck the rear of the bus. Evidence indicates the GMC was straddling two travel lanes before it hit the bus, police said.

Emergency responders checked the five student passengers and driver at the scene for injuries but determined they didn't need to be hospitalized.

Police said the 25-year-old driver of the GMC Suburban appeared to be at fault for the North Las Vegas crash and remains in critical condition at UMC.
