4.4 quake rocks Reno area

RENO — Small to moderate earthquakes shook the Reno area overnight, startling residents but causing no major damage.

The University of Nevada, Reno Seismology Lab said the largest temblor registered at 4.4 in magnitude and occurred at 10:46 p.m. Tuesday.

It was centered about 3 miles north of Galena High School in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada long the Mount Rose Highway.

That quake was preceded and followed by about two dozen smaller quakes.

The shaking was felt across the Reno area.
