Nevada gets new homeland security adviser

CARSON CITY — Caleb Cage, who has served in Gov. Brian Sandoval’s Cabinet as director of military and veterans policy, was appointed Friday as the governor’s homeland security adviser.

Cage was also named by Public Safety Director Jim Wright to serve as chief of the Division of Emergency Management.

In his new roles, Cage will manage the state Office of Homeland Security and serve as the point person to coordinate with the federal Department of Homeland Security, as well as with other federal, state and local jurisdictions.

As homeland security adviser, Cage will sit on Nevada’s Homeland Security Commission.

Cage is a 2002 graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. He served during Operation Iraqi Freedom, earning a Bronze Star and Combat Action Badge.

Sandoval praised Cage’s service to the state.

“He was a critical component to the success of our comprehensive and sweeping veteran reforms this legislative session and I am grateful for his hard work and tireless commitment to serve our men and women of the military and veterans’ community,” Sandoval said in a statement.

The governor said he is confident Cage will be a “sharp and knowledgeable” adviser on homeland security matters.
