Coronado’s boys golf shot a two-day total of 23-over-par 599 as a team to win the Class 4A state golf tournament at Reflection Bay Golf Club on Tuesday. It was the Cougars’ first title since 2012, and Coronado players celebrated by jumping into Lake Las Vegas.

Both the boys and girls teams dominated for Palo Verde as they cruised to region titles.
Palo Verde hung on for a 6-4 victory over Bishop Gorman at Shadow Ridge on Friday to clinch a berth in the Sunset Region championship.
Nik Dobar pitched a complete game, and Centennial took advantage of a six-run fourth inning to earn a 10-4 home win over Palo Verde.
Makall Whetten knocked a two-out, two-RBI single in the bottom of the sixth inning to give the Panthers a 5-3 lead over Shadow Ridge. The Mustangs left the bases loaded in the seventh without scoring, and Palo Verde advanced to its ninth straight Sunset Region final.
Palo Verde pitcher Bryce Robison retired the final 12 batters he faced, including seven by strikeout, to help the Panthers to a 9-3 road win over Desert Oasis in the winners’ bracket of the Class 4A Sunset Region tournament.
Shadow Ridge cruised to an 11-3 home win over Faith Lutheran in the Sunset Region softball tournament on Wednesday afternoon.
