Boulder City’s Zayne Dennington trailed Vicente Pinto of Virgin Valley 3-1 with 15 seconds remaining in the championship match at 126 pounds. But Dennington managed a one-point escape, then spun and forced a takedown at the very edge of the mat with one second left to earn two points and pull out the dramatic 4-3 victory.
After Friday’s competition at Western High, Boulder City earned 93½ points and first place in the standings on the strength of having a dozen wrestlers make it to the semifinals. Virgin Valley sits in second with 84, with Cheyenne and Mojave tied for third with 72.
Kyle Wilson rolled games of 258, 220 and 277 for a 755 series on his way to the Class 4A state boys bowling title at the Gold Coast Bowling Center. Wilson was the runner-up last year, losing by only 11 pins.
