Needles defeated Lincoln County 20-6 on Saturday at The Meadows, winning their first state championship since 2013.
Hunter Wilkin, nicknamed “Kersh” after Los Angeles Dodgers star Clayton Kershaw, pitched 2⅔ innings in his final game, as Lincoln County turned back Needles, 6-2 at The Meadows to win the Class 2A state baseball title.
Needles topped Yerington 7-6 on Friday, preventing the Lions from reaching the Class 2A baseball state title game for the seventh straight year.
Needles will look to add another state title to its record total after winning a 16-14 slugfest against Lincoln County on Friday in the Class 2A state tournament semifinals at The Meadows.
Raecheal Lowenthal’s pinch-hit, RBI single in the eighth tied the game, and the senior later scored the winning run on Jaycee Fragoso’s base hit to give Needles a 6-5 victory over West Wendover in the Class 2A state softball tournament at The Meadows.

Lake Mead’s Nick Herrero birdied the 18th hole on Tuesday to give the Eagles a one-stroke victory over The Meadows in the Class 2A state golf tournament at Eagle Valley’s West Golf Course in Carson City.
Kobe Walker went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, and Lincoln County’s baseball team pounded out 19 hits on Saturday to capture a 20-10, five-inning win over Needles in the Class 2A Southern Region final at Mountain View.
Paige Murch went 2-for-4 with a double, a home run, two runs and two RBIs to lead Needles’ softball team to its first region title in eight years with a 7-1 win over Lincoln County on Saturday.
Needles (17-8) was awarded a 7-0 forfeit victory over Laughlin, and will play Lincoln County (21-3) for the Class 2A Southern Region title at 10 a.m. Saturday at Mountain View. If Needles wins, a second game will be played to determine the champion.
Howard went 3-for-4 with two doubles, two runs and an RBI on Thursday to lead Lincoln County’s softball team to an 11-1 victory over Lake Mead in the Class 2A Southern League tournament at Mountain View.
Needles’ Dillon Darrow got a groundout with runners at the corners in the bottom of the seventh as the Mustangs edged Laughlin 7-6 in the Class 2A Southern League tournament at Mountain View on Thursday.
