460 acres of public land burns in fire near Hiko

ELY -- A federal official says a lightning-sparked wildfire has been contained after burning about 460 acres of public land about 10 miles northwest of the rural Nevada town of Hiko.

Federal Bureau of Land Management spokesman Chris Hanefeld said no injuries were reported, and no private property or structures were threatened.

The fire started about 6 p.m. Wednesday and was declared fully contained Saturday night, with help from Nevada Division of Forestry and U.S. Forest Service fire crews, Hanefeld said.

According to Incident Commander Eric Ellison, the fire area will be assessed for emergency stabilization and rehabilitation.

Hiko, in Lincoln County, is about 100 miles north of Las Vegas.
