8-foot tall sculpture stolen from downtown studio

A maiden was stolen from downtown Las Vegas last week — but not the kind you’re thinking.

A metal sculpture named “Iron Maiden #2” and valued by its artist at $5,500 was taken from a studio in the 18b Arts District on Sept. 3.

James Henninger, the 44-year-old local artist who created the piece, was surprised by the theft. It weighs less than 30 pounds, he said, but is 8 feet tall and has razor-sharp edges. The sculpture is made from mesh metal, layered to create the image of a woman.

It would be difficult to walk away with, even if multiple people were helping, said Henninger.

The 303 North Studio owned the sculpture and had it mounted to the outside of their East Charleston Boulevard building. There are several scrap metal and recycling yards in the area, and Henninger was worried one would be the maiden’s ultimate destination.
