Arizona escapees may be sent to New Mexico to stand trial

Two escapees from the Arizona State Prison in Golden Valley and the woman who is alleged to have assisted the July 30 prison break could be headed to New Mexico soon to stand trial for murder.

Casslyn Welch and recaptured inmates John McCluskey and Tracey Province are charged in the Aug. 2 slayings of an Oklahoma couple in New Mexico.

They face charges in Mohave County in the escape and a truck hijacking.

Deputy County Attorney Victoria Stazio said her office would prefer to prosecute the trio in Arizona before they are transported to New Mexico. She said federal authorities want to taken them to New Mexico first.

Superior Court Judge Steve Conn has scheduled a hearing in Kingman today on venue issues.
