Arizona man dies after arrest; had been cleared at hospital

KINGMAN, Ariz. -- A Lake Havasu City, Ariz., man died several hours after he was taken into custody in Mohave Valley early Thursday.

Sheriff's office spokeswoman Trish Carter said George Stephen Foster Jr., 23, was arrested about 2 a.m. after deputies coaxed him out of a bathroom in a home on Puerto Verde Drive.

Carter said witnesses indicated Foster locked himself in the bathroom to ingest drugs. She said a used syringe that tested positive for heroin was located in the bathroom.

Carter said Foster was taken to Valley View Medical Center and then booked after he was cleared by medical personnel. She said Foster was found unconscious in his cell at 6 a.m. and that he was pronounced dead after he was transported back to the hospital.

An autopsy is pending.
