Arrest report gives new details about shootout that hurt officers

New details emerged Tuesday about the shootout that left three Las Vegas police officers wounded last week.

According to an arrest report, the mother of the 42-year-old man who is accused of shooting those officers told police that her son had been drinking and was high on crack. Terry Dixon's mother had called police Friday because he was fighting with her, and she wanted him out of her Paradise Park apartments, near Twain Avenue and Paradise Road, the report stated.

Las Vegas police officer Travis Busby was the first officer to arrive at the apartment complex. He spoke briefly with Dixon at the base of the stairs to his mother's apartment before Dixon ran back into the second-floor apartment, the report stated.

Another officer, Shawn Izzo, then arrived at the apartments. The two officers heard several gunshots and a woman scream, prompting them to run up the stairs.

Izzo tried twice to kick the door in before several shots were fired through the closed door, the report stated, adding that Busby was shot in the wrist and dropped his gun. Izzo was struck in the chest but was wearing body armor.

Both officers retreated from the apartment, and Dixon's mother then fled from the apartment.

A third officer, Nevin Hansbarger, who had arrived at the apartments and was behind an aluminum utility cabinet, was struck by a bullet fired from the second-story bedroom window, the report stated.

The round ricocheted off Hansbarger's belt, police said.

Dixon surrendered to police after a 31/2-hour standoff. Police found a .38-caliber revolver inside the apartment, the report stated.

During an interview with police, Dixon told officers that he remembered the shooting but didn't know that three officers had been shot, the report stated.

Dixon is now facing multiple charges, including six counts of attempted murder with a deadly weapon.

He is to have a hearing in court today.
