Arson, endangerment charges await LV mom

A Las Vegas mother of three will face arson and child endangerment charges after authorities say she set ablaze her east-side apartment with her children inside Wednesday morning.

The woman called Las Vegas police around midnight to say she "wanted to end it all" and planned to set her bed on fire, Clark County Fire Department spokesman Scott Allison said.

She also told dispatchers she wanted them to come get her children, who range in age from 5 to 10 years old.

Police and firefighters arrived at her apartment complex on East Tropicana Avenue near Boulder Highway about 12:30 a.m. to find her unit ablaze, Allison said.

The children were outside when crews entered the apartment and it took four men to carry the woman away, he said.

"She was bound and determined to die," Allison said.

The children, who were not harmed, were placed in the custody of Child Protective Services.

Their mother was taken to an area hospital for evaluation. She suffered no major injuries.

Allison said the apartment was gutted but firefighters were able to contain damage to the one unit.

An estimate of total damage was not available.
