ASSEMBLY DISTRICT 3
Three-term incumbent Peggy Pierce faces two opponents in her re-election bid for the Assembly District 3 seat: Republican Eric Morelli and Libertarian Kristie Turley.
Neither Pierce nor Turley returned repeated calls seeking comment for this story.
Morelli, a native Nevadan, now has children attending the same elementary school he went to as a child.
"I'm just out there to try to improve Nevada's well-being, make it better for my kids and make it easier for the regular guy to know what's going on out there," he said.
He said he is not in favor of raising taxes and would lay off state workers only as a "last resort."
Morelli said the slumping economy could be helped if politicians would tell people that things eventually will improve.
"Right now, our leaders do not show confidence in the economy," he said. "They haven't even instilled hope. And that's a sad part."
He added: "I'm not going to let the economy get me down."
Morelli said he coaches soccer and does volunteer work for groups such as Opportunity Village and Toys for Tots.
