Authorities looking for 2 inmates who left Reno work crew

Two prison inmates escaped from a work assignment about 2 p.m. Wednesday in Reno, the Nevada Department of Corrections said.

Corey Gomez, of Clark County, and Dustin Cottiero, of Washoe County, walked away from their job with the Nevada Division of Forestry at about 2:10 p.m. They had been working with a crew near Interstate 80 and McCarran Boulevard, officials said.

Cottiero was serving one to two years for attempted burglary and Gomez was serving three to eight years for burglary and resisting a public officer with a weapon. Both inmates were serving their sentences at Stewart Conservation Camp in Carson City.

Nevada Highway Patrol, Sparks police and Reno police were searching for the escapees.
