BLM offering reward in arrest of metal fence post thieves

CARSON CITY -- The Bureau of Land Management is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of whomever is responsible for stealing metal fence posts and other range improvements in rural Nevada.

Since October, the BLM reported that nearly 400 metal fence posts and other metal grazing structures, such as water tanks and troughs, have been stolen throughout Churchill County.

Officials said stealing grazing fence posts is a federal offense punishable by up to a year in jail and a $10,000 fine.

They also said metal scrap yards in the region have been notified and asked to keep an eye out for stolen fence posts being brought in by "scrappers."
