Body of 40-year-old drowning victim found in Lake Mead

A swimmer who went missing in Lake Mead Thursday night was found dead Friday morning.

Authorities said the 40-year-old man's body was found about 9:45 a.m. near the shore.

The Las Vegas man went missing about 9 p.m. while swimming in a cove at The Narrows, a National Park Service spokesman said.

The man and a friend were in a boat when they decided to enter the cove.

The man jumped into the water to swim. Soon after, he screamed he was drowning. The man's friend threw a rope into the water, but the man never resurfaced, authorities said.

His friend told officials the man was drunk and not wearing a life jacket.
