Brookins wins unanimous decision over Johnson to capture ‘Ultimate’ title
Jonathan Brookins survived a disastrous first round to win a unanimous decision over Michael Johnson and earn the "The Ultimate Fighter: Season 12" title on a card at the Palms on Saturday night.
Johnson nearly knocked Brookins out on several occasions early in the fight, but Brookins controlled Johnson on the ground for most of the final two rounds to earn the favor of the judges.
"I was stunned. I was like, 'Oh man, here comes Michael Johnson,' " Brookins said. "That's MJ. He's tough."
With the victory, Brookins earns a lucrative contract in the Ultimate Fighting Championship.
Also, Demian Maia and Las Vegan Stephan Bonnar earned unanimous decision victories on the card.
