Buckley hopes to map state’s financial future

CARSON CITY -- Assembly Speaker Barbara Buckley, D-Las Vegas, said Thursday she will hold meetings over the next month with business leaders and community groups to gather ideas on how to overhaul the state's financial structure.

She intends to meet Monday with members of the Carson City Chamber of Commerce and on Tuesday in Las Vegas with the Nevada Subcontractors Association.

Buckley also has scheduled a Nov. 4 meeting with the Nevada Development Authority and intends to meet soon with bankers and in rural Nevada communities.

"With the horrible national economic news that has dominated for the last few weeks, I am holding a number of meetings with financial experts to get their input on what we can do on a state level to help turn this economy around," Buckley said.

She also has recruited 30 discussion leaders around the state who will be holding forums with residents to gain ideas on how to improve the economy.

"Our discussion leaders are also planning meetings throughout the next few months with a wide range of individuals. We want input from the broadest perspective possible."
