A getaway car spotted at the scene of a slaying in morning traffic last week was stolen, Las Vegas police said today.
Police spokesman Jacinto Rivera said the four-door, 2000 Chevrolet Malibu used in the Dec. 16 slaying of Las Vegan Michael McDaniels is hot.
McDaniels, 48, was shot in broad daylight while waiting to turn at the busy intersection of Martin Luther King Boulevard and Owens Avenue.
Witnesses described seeing a man who exited the Malibu and fired multiple shots at the driver. After the shooting, the man calmly walked back to the Malibu, made a U-turn and fled east on Owens.
Rivera said tracking down the car could lead to solving the slaying.
“What we have is a guy who stole the car and committed a homicide,” Rivera said. “We suspect the vehicle is in town. Someone should have spotted the vehicle by now.”
The white Malibu with a black bra has a Nevada license plate of LV22G6.
