Channel 8 anchor squelches rumors

Addressing rumors that they are dating, TV hottie Dayna Roselli says she and Caesars Palace headliner Matt Goss are just "really, really good friends."

Roselli, the morning co-anchor at KLAS-TV, Channel 8, made the comment Friday in an interview on KXTE-FM, 107.5. She was picking up the Hottest News Chick award from morning show hosts Dave Farra and Jason Mahoney.

Roselli confirmed that she and her husband, Brendan Doane, "recently" divorced. Two years ago, she nominated Doane for Red magazine's Hottest Husband contest. He was one of 24 finalists.

Roselli told a suburban Rochester, N.Y., newspaper in 2008 that she and Doane were "best friends. ... We have really good communication. He's just the total package."

I asked Roselli to address the dating buzz that started with her appearances at Goss' show at Caesars.

"No, Matt and I are not going out. Just friends. I'm not dating anyone," she said via Twitter.

One of her tweets included the comment, "Goo Goo for Goss," and he posted tweets campaigning for her as Hottest News Chick.

Goss' publicist, Steve Flynn, said, "They are really good friends, and she's a big fan of his show."

Goss started his career as lead singer of the 1980s British boy-band Bros and he's been characterized as "The Justin Timberlake of the U.K." He has been billed in Las Vegas as a Sinatra-esque act.

Earlier this year, Goss, 41, and model-turned-actress Daisy Fuentes ended their 10-year relationship amid cheating rumors. Goss told RadarOnline.com, "We had a long and loving relationship. This came as a shock, especially when you think you really know someone."

TELEPHONE GAME

Ed Henry, CNN's chief White House correspondent, was putting some final touches on his Las Vegas wedding plans last month. Hoping to add a surprise to the ceremony, Henry left a voice mail message for longtime Las Vegas Elvis impersonator Brendan Paul.

Or so he thought.

A guy named Branden called and said he got the message, adding, "You may have me confused, but I'd be more than happy to have the reception at my '80s-themed yogurt shop."

Henry figured out he got the wrong phone number from a certain Las Vegas gossip columnist (think pirate).

On the phone was Branden Powers, a longtime local nightclub marketing executive who recently opened I Love Yogurt at 11700 W. Charleston Blvd. Powers' telephone number was one line below Paul's in my cell phone.

Henry married Shirley Hung, a producer at CNN, at Wynn Las Vegas on Saturday, with Paul on hand to sing "Can't Help Falling in Love."

A GOOD NEWS STORY

With all the recession-related doom and gloom , the staff at KLAS expected more bad news when everyone was summoned to a meeting last week.

Instead of layoffs, more than 100 employees got thank-you checks: $1,000 for full-time employees with the company for at least a year and $500 for part-time employees.

"Our general manager, Emily Neilson, and the leadership team at the station felt the staff has really pulled together as a team to get through these last couple of difficult years financially," news director Ron Comings said.

THE PUNCH LINE

"Queen Elizabeth made her first visit to Wimbledon in 33 years. She's 84 years old. I guess that's why instead of grass, the courts are covered in nonslip bath mats." -- Jimmy Fallon
