Child drowns in North Las Vegas pool

A 7-year-old boy drowned Saturday night during a party where adults were present, North Las Vegas police said.

Sgt. Tim Bedwell said police were called to a home about 7:47 p.m. on the 3700 block of Caribbean Blue Ave., near Centennial Parkway and Aviary Way.

Bedwell said the boy attended the party with his parents. About 30 to 50 adults and children were present, he said.

He said at some point he was on a floatation device, and then he was found in the bottom of the pool.

Bedwell did not know if the boy knew how to swim.

"It's unknown what caused him to be at the bottom of the pool," Bedwell said.

He added: "It's a death investigation that appears to be accidental."

Bedwell said a person at the party performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation on the boy. He was transported to University Medical Center where he was declared dead.

Bedwell stressed that as the temperatures get hotter, adults need to make sure they are keeping their eye on children in pools.

"Somebody has to be responsible for every kid out there in the water," he said.
