Collision victim was North Las Vegas 40-year-old

A man who died earlier this week when the motorcycle he was riding collided with a car in North Las Vegas was identified Wednesday by the Clark County coroner's office as 40-year-old Derek Trotter.

The coroner's office said Trotter, a North Las Vegas resident, died from trauma to the head and chest.

North Las Vegas police said the collision occurred about 12:37 p.m. Saturday on Lake Mead Boulevard near Bruce Street.

Police said a female passenger riding with Trotter was injured. Her condition was unknown Wednesday. Trotter died at the scene.

Police said an 83-year-old man driving a Nissan Versa was headed east on Lake Mead and turned north on Bruce while the motorcycle was traveling west on Lake Mead. That is when the vehicles collided.

Police said excessive speed on part of the motorcyclist might have been a factor. Trotter and his passenger were wearing helmets of poor quality that provided them with little protection, police said.

The Nissan driver submitted a blood test to police. No signs existed he was under the influence of drugs or alcohol, police said.
