Congressman Cresent Hardy hospitalized after heart attack

Rep. Cresent Hardy, R-Nev., has suffered a “minor” heart attack, his office’s communications director reported around 7:30 p.m. Monday.

Larry Farnsworth wrote Hardy had “undergone a routine medical procedure” and remained hospitalized following the incident. Farnsworth later confirmed the medical episode occurred while Hardy was in the Las Vegas Valley.

“Out of an abundance of caution, doctors are continuing to observe him while he makes a full and speedy recovery,” Farnsworth wrote. “We expect the Congressman to return to a full schedule later this week and is expected to be in Washington next week for votes when Congress returns from the August district work period.”

The House of Representatives has been on recess since July 15 and is set to reconvene Sept. 6.

Hardy, 59, is running for re-election in Nevada’s 4th Congressional District against Ruben Kihuen, a Democratic state senator. His campaign declined to make further comment on the medical episode Monday evening.

Kihuen had Hardy in his thoughts Monday night.

“I’m glad to hear that Congressman Hardy will make a strong and quick recovery, and I wish him and his family all the best,” Kihuen wrote in a statement.

Several other politicians also wished Hardy well on Twitter. Gov. Brian Sandoval tweeted, “Praying for a speedy and full recovery for my friend and dedicated public servant @RepHardy.”

Rep. Joe Heck, R-Nev., tweeted, “Get well soon, @cresenthardy. Lisa and I are keeping you in our thoughts & wishing you a quick recovery.”
